Carbon steel and stainless steel flanges are both forged for piping, but they suit different media. The choice depends on what flows in the line, the temperature and pressure, and the budget.
Carbon steel flanges
Carbon steel grades such as A105 and Q235 are the usual choice for oil, gas, water, and general industrial piping. Carbon steel rusts if the surface is left without paint or another protective treatment.
Stainless steel flanges
Stainless grades 304 and 316L are used for chemical service, seawater, and food. They cost more than carbon steel.
How to choose
Match the grade to the medium, the temperature and pressure, and the budget. If the line carries oil, water, or general industrial fluid and the surface is protected, carbon steel is the usual choice. If the medium is corrosive, chloride-bearing, or food-related, stainless steel is the safer choice.
Send the medium, temperature, pressure, size, and quantity through the inquiry form and we will quote the matching flange.
